Healthy Living Heaven

Kort and I recently discovered our neighborhood Herb Mart. If we had known about this little chain of TX herb stores during our Total Life Cleanse, we would have saved hundred of dollars on vitamins, supplements and natural foods. It's a small shop in a strip mall among several other businesses in Plano, with other locations in Mesquite and Lakewood. It's on the way for us to Whole Foods, about half of the distance from our house. Product prices on Ester C and triphala were more than 50% cheaper than what we would pay at Whole Foods, and all had options of the supplements in easy-to-swallow gel caps. Not only that, the store sells organic meats, wheat-free bread in the freezer case, organic sodas and juices, and beauty and cosmetics products. The staff is knowledgable of the products and the website includes an online store where you can have products shipped to you, wherever you live. If you are into green living, this is the place to shop. The only thing the physical store could not offer was produce - but that's what farmer's markets and food co-ops are for....

Sustainable Housing - Turbines and windpower

The Dallas Observer published a great article this week on North Dallas homeowner Paul Westbrook who incorporated a styrofoam core into the construction of his home to reduce his heating and cooling bills. His neighbors pay as much as $500 in monthly electric bills, whereas he pays $70 to $100! His most recent enhancement to the property is the installation of a turbine which harnesses windpower which will contribute to reducing energy costs even more.

Rehoboth Ranch - organic meats

Kort and I were in McKinney seeing Dr. Gregg for follow-ups this past weekend and stumbled on the local farmer's market. Of note was the presence of Rehoboth Ranch - a family farm and provider of grass-fed, organic meats, including beef, lamb, chicken and pork. They can be visited online here. What's even better is that they have a Dallas presence - on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., you can find them at Shed 2 at the Dallas Farmers Market downtown.
